Sean is the West Midlands Genomics Medicine Centre Ambassador for Cancer for the region.
Sean’s role is the implementation of the newly announced Genomics Medicine service in cancer across NHS Trusts in the West Midlands. Working across the region to engage clinicians, allied health professional and patients with the new service, to facilitate implementation of new testing pathways, and to educate regarding the potential benefits to patient care of embedding genetic
and genomic data into patient healthcare.
Sean is a state registered Biomedical Scientist, with thirty years’ experience in cellular pathology within the NHS. In 2009, he set up the biorepository at University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust and is currently responsible for the operational management of the now ethically approved Arden Tissue Bank at the trust. The biobank now holds in excess of 300,000 human tissue samples, and supplies consented human tissue samples surplus to diagnosis to academic and commercial entities. Arden Tissue bank works in partnership with NHS BT to make non-transplantable tissues available to researchers.
Arden tissue bank is the West Midlands host and co-ordination centre for the Tommys Reproductive Health Biobank- a network of six centres of excellence across the UK, who all investigate female reproductive health under a single ethical approval & standard operating procedures. This allows applicant to access sample collection at six sites through a single application- and gain ethical approval to carry out their research as part of the application.
Sean has co-authored over 20 peer-reviewed publications, stemming from his cellular pathology technical support of a diverse range of research groups at the University Of Warwick & Coventry University.
