George Magnus

George Magnus is a research associate at the China Centre, Oxford University, and at the SOAS China Institute in London. He spent just over 20 years as the Chief Economist, later Senior Economic Adviser, of UBS, and served for several years as the Chair of the Investment Committee of the bank’s UK life assurance and pension fund. Previously he had been the Chief Economist of the UK merchant bank, SG Warburg. He writes, speaks and consults on China, and on the global economy, and he and his work and views appear regularly in the media and on his website at www.georgemagnus.com. He is the author of The Age of Aging, a book on global demographic change, Uprising, which considers the global role of emerging and developing countries, and most recently of Red Flags: Why Xi’s China is in Jeopardy.
