Professor Michael Beverland is Head of Department (Strategy & Marketing) at the University of Sussex. He did his training in Australia where he spent several years researching the wine, food, and fashion industries. His focus is on branding, particularly in the area of brand authenticity, which examines how managers and consumers use brands to achieve their sense of self. His work is contained is his book Building Brand Authenticity and his present textbook Brand Management. Michael also examines issues in relation to consumer work, design innovation, and various applications of branding, including those focused on building brand image for small firms, people, regions and nation states. In his spare time he enjoys travelling, drawing and old-school photography.
