Jonathan Mann FRSA
A professional musician, Jonathan spent 25 years teaching music in one of the country’s largest comprehensive schools, for most of this time as Head of Music. Leaving the teaching profession, he was able to move into working in the heritage railway sector thanks largely to the experience and training he received as a long standing volunteer on the world’s first preserved railway, the Talyllyn, as well as latterly being a volunteer driver on the Isle of Wight Steam Railway. He has worked full-time for the Launceston Steam Railway, of which he is a Director, for some nineteen years, covering all aspects from driving, rolling stock and building maintenance, permanent way work, to marketing and graphic design. In his ’spare’ time he continues to volunteer on the Talyllyn Railway in a variety of roles including as a driver and signalling inspector (having completed more than 40 years as a volunteer including a period as Chairman of the Society), and also continues to drive on the Isle of Wight Steam Railway. He also continues to work as a musician, conducting Launceston Choral Society and Launceston Male Voice Choir, giving organ recitals, and examining for the Royal School of Church Music. A member of the Diocesan Advisory Committee for Truro, he advises on organs, and is also Chairman of the Truro Diocesan Choral Union.
