Julian Fletcher

Julian Fletcher is playing a leading role in proving technology to decarbonise battery railway vehicles. Currently the Technology Development manager for the GWR Fast Charge Battery Train Trial, he has become an authority on battery traction in the sector, having led the test programme for the train and charging system in West Ealing. During this time, he also orchestrated the successful battery train World Record attempt. He is a trusted voice in the field of battery traction, and helps guide the thinking of rail industry bodies, sharing his experience across industry and a range of media.

He is a Fellow of the IMechE, and his breadth of experience extends beyond the rail industry, including extensive gas turbine development work for Rolls-Royce and diesel engine development in the early part of his career. He embraces clean technology in home life as well as work, and has taken on several personal and technical challenges including an attempt to break the world record for the furthest distance travelled in a pedal powered boat in 24 hours.
