Lord Dominic Johnson of Lainston CBE

Dominic Johnson, Lord Johnson of Lainston CBE is a Conservative Peer and former Minister of State for Investment and Regulatory Reform, between October 2022 and July 2024.  He served as Co-Chairman of the Conservative Party from 2024 to 2025.

After graduating from Durham University, he has spent over 30 years in financial services, beginning his career at Robert Fleming in 1995, before moving to Hong Kong to work for Jardine Fleming and then in 2002, after a series of dot com startups, heading the marketing for Lloyd George Asset Management - an emerging markets specialist firm. In 2007 he co-founded Somerset Capital Management LLP an emerging markets equity specialist based in London and Singapore.

In 2020 he joined the board of the Department for International Trade as a Non-Executive Director and in October 2022 he was appointed as a Minister of State and Member of the House of Lords. 

His ministerial responsibilities focussed on attracting foreign direct investment into the UK, especially in the key areas of clean energy, financial services, deep tech and life sciences. He also held responsibility for regulatory reform, specifically through the delivery of a white paper on aligning the regulatory environment and the needs of businesses, to generate economic growth.

His current roles include being on the board of Crypto data provider, Block Scholes, advising the Commonwealth Enterprise and Investment Council and in October 2025 he also joined the board of AI Pathfinder as lead independent director.  In addition, he is an advisor to Equitix a mid market UK and EU Infrastructure business.

In addition, he is a fully committed working member of the House of Lords.  He is the Chairman of the International Agreements Committee, House of Lords, since January 2026.
